Palm Oil Free - herbal Bath Bombs. Plastic free packaging and plant based, who doesn't love a good bath bomb?
Our new herbal bath bombs by INSTINKS are completely free of nasties and are palm oil free. Did you know that many bath bombs on the market contain palm oil derived ingredients, such as polysorbate 20 or or polysorbate 80 and SLS? As of January 2020 we have made it our missin to give you a better more skin loving bath bomb range by delivering the following.
These abbreviations stand for the various "Sulfates" that are found in the cosmetic world. Sulfates are surfactants -when you combine them with water they will foam and emulsify greasy substances. They are largely synthetic derived from petrochemicals! These can be an irritant to skin. We have been conditioned to think suds and foaming means "clean." but it is not the case.
We use Tapioca starch NOT cornstarch. We believe this is better for the bath bomb and for you. Cornstarch has been known to irritate some people while using bath bombs. Tapico starch also adds silkiness, helps absorb essential oils, and slowly releases the absorbed oils into the bath water. We love it as an alternative.
NO ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCES
INSTINKS no longer uses artificial fragrances due to not being able to list the ingredients in fragrance. They are proprietary so they do not have to tell us what ingredients are in them. We dont feel this is right amongst other issues with them so INSITNKS have dropped fragrances as of January 2020.
Recent studies from health direct (see article here https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/blog/perfume-stinks-how-fragrances-can-affect-health) report that about 1 in 3 people are having health problems when exposed to fragranced products. Those problems include asthma attacks, hay fever, headache, migraine, dizziness, breathing problems, rashes, congestion, nausea and seizures.
Most fragrances come from oils that contain phthalates. Phthalates are apparently known to cause respiratory problems, have carcinogenic properties, and have also been linked to the stunting of behavioural and developmental abilities in children.
According to research by the University of Melbourne, some people have even lost work days or a job because of illness caused by fragranced goods such as air fresheners, cleaning supplies, laundry products and personal care items. It is for these reasons that we at INSTINKS have decided to no longer use fragrances in our products as of January 2020.
Our herbal bath bombs now contain essential oils or herbs or clays for these reasons.
Most artificial dyes and colours are derived from coal-tar. Most of these dyes are formed by reacting them with metal salts, including aluminium, which has recently been linked to serious illnesses like Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore we no longer use certain dyes or colours in our products instead we use what is considered "inorganic" colorants, micas and oxides.. These are synthesized to avoid heavy metal contamination that you would find in nature. We are ever researching this because we want to make sure we are doing our best to keep you safe, but still provide fun and safe soaps and bath products.
Bath bombs usually make use of sulphates to add foam to your bath. If you’re using bath bombs that contain SLS, SLSA or SLES in the ingredients, then you’re exposing yourself to sulphates. Sulphates are derived from petrochemicals, and while they don’t pose serious health risks, they can irritate your skin.
POLYSORBATE 80 FREE (palm free)
Polysorbate 80 has become a popular ingredient in food, medication, and personal care items. In bath bombs, it serves the purpose of preventing the colours from staining your tub. However, it is made from palm oil and we are palm free. Which is why we no longer use polysorbate 80 from January 2020. We have instead opted to use clays, petals and mica for colouring out bath bombs. It does mean that you may get a ring on your bathtub but it can simply be wiped away when your bath is done.
